Training activities at school with the InformPack project

Reading time: 2

At the beginning of the year, the InformPack consortium renewed its work plan with EIT Food. In the guidelines for the next two years, the aim has been to reinforce citizen participation activities, giving more space for training actions.

The main objective of the InformPack project is to achieve a change in public behavior that allows a transition towards a more sustainable European food packaging ecosystem; and for this, in this phase, a specific work package has been included to carry out training actions at the level of primary, secondary and university education; designing specific actions adapted to the different stages.

Today we are going to stop at the first training sessions that we have carried out in BIOAZUL with the youngest group. And it is that in the first months of the year we have carried out different training sessions at the Academia Santa Teresa school in Malaga at the level of infant and primary education. These workshops have served as a contact for us, from here we are working on the design of a curriculum of activities for the next school year together with the rest of the InformPack team and with the support of teachers. Our ambition is to carry out actions in which the impact can be measured at the level of knowledge, awareness and behavior in the different educational stages.

We leave you a brief summary of the objectives that we worked on in these first workshops:

  • Workshop – Introduction to recycling. With the aim of introducing notions of recycling and the correct separation of materials in the containers dedicated to that use. Manipulative activity with recycled paper.
  • Recycling Workshop. Concepts on reduction, reuse and recycling were reviewed. We worked on the main errors when separating the materials for recycling and on the impact of our actions for the sustainability of the environment.
  • Recycling and reuse workshop. We worked from the 3R’s: reduction, reuse and recycling. The difference between reuse and recycling was highlighted and how we can do both from families and schools. The type of material that goes in each container and the main errors when separating were reviewed. Manipulative activity with waste brought from home.
  • Recycling and Sustainability Workshop. Concepts on reduction, reuse and recycling were reviewed. We worked on the main errors when separating the materials for recycling and on the impact of our actions for the sustainability of the environment.
